How do I upload native files?

Ben Wolf January 29, 2010

For a list of file types that we process, follow this link.

A few notes on native processing

...spreadsheets

We don't automatically unhide or unlock cells in spreadsheets.

...filename capture

When we process files natively, the subject line of emails are put in subject/title field and attachment names are also put in the subject/title (not in the parent email, but in their own separate document).

...deduping

We deduplicate via md5 hashing. Meta data fields, custodian, and native file hash go into the overall documents hash. After a hash is made for each document, they are deduped. This means that they are not duplicated in the database for storage, and each unique document only has one entry. If the document came from several places, each of those places will have a link to the deduplicated document. Upon export, we reduplicate the documents to keep them with their parent documents.

...metadata extraction

Metadata is extracted from the files we process. For more information, please contact your Project Manager.
