Video Transcript Clip Export

Follow

Nextpoint allows users to export video clips directly from synced video transcripts. Users can export individual clips, multiple clips as separate video files, or a compilation of a series of video clips.

Exported clips can be useful in many situations, such as an opening statement presentation, a replacement for live testimony, or impeachment evidence for a witness. Clips can be created and exported directly within the application with minimal additional effort.

Before you begin

To export video clips, a video transcript must be imported and synced. Additionally, clips can be exported per designation or transcript issue, so at least one designation or transcript issue must be present prior to exporting clips.

Steps to export a video clip:

  1. Navigate to the “Browse Clips” section on the right-side panel when viewing a transcript.
  2. Select the designation type or transcript issue you would like to export from the drop-down menu.
  3. To export an individual designation or transcript issue clip, click the Export clip icon icon next to the page or line indicator for the clip you would like to export. The clip will assemble and then export to the default download location on your computer. Individually downloaded videos can also be accessed under “More” > “My Downloads.”
  4. To export multiple designation or transcript issue clips, select the checkbox(es) next to the clip(s) you want to include and click the “Export” link below the clip panel. Select the “Export Clips” radio button, then choose between exporting one “Clip Compilation” (with a brief fade out and fade in between clips) or a set of “Individual” video clips. Clips will appear under “More” > “Data” > “Exports” in your database. You also have the option to export as CSV.
  5. The total runtime of a series of clips appears above the clip panel next to the word “Runtime.” Selecting all clips (by checking the box above the clip panel) will return the total runtime for all clips included in the selected designation or transcript issue.

Warning

This feature is intended for exporting short clips rather than entire depositions. One limitation of clip exports is that clips cannot span multiple imported videos. If a clip begins in one imported video and continues into another, the export will fail.

As a workaround, the clip can be broken into two parts: one clip from the beginning of the segment through the end of the first video, and a second clip from the beginning of the next video through the end of the segment.

Note

If a clip is not included in the synced video (which is common for introductory material at the beginning of a transcript or notes at the end), the play button and individual export button will not be available for that clip. If such a designation is included in a multi-clip export, it will not appear as a video because no corresponding video exists.
